Because of the strong association between obesity and diabetes, some practitioners coined the term “diabesity.” Diabesity is a modern epidemic, which recognizes the coexistence of both diabetes and obesity. Diabesity is the continuum of metabolic disturbances from mild blood sugar and insulin imbalances to pre-diabetes to full-blown type 2 diabetes.
Many studies have shown that hyperinsulinemia is a major cause of obesity. And there’s a definite link between diabetes and obesity. Being a vegetarian does not insure that you won’t get fat. In fact, many vegetarians experience obesity!
