When I was growing up Adventist in the ’50s and ’60, conservative Adventism was known for substituting carob for chocolate because chocolate, like cola, has caffeine. For this reason, some Adventist diets eliminate chocolate. Others choose to believe that dark chocolate has specific health benefits. If you are sensitive/allergic to chocolate, or for whatever other reason you choose to use carob instead of chocolate, just be sure to calculate the nutrition information accordingly.
Cocoa powder has 3.1g carbs per 1 T.
Carob powder has 5.6g carbs per 1 T.
