Let’s start with a quiz. TRUE or FALSE?

  • There are essential amino acids (proteins)
  • There are essential fatty acids (fats)
  • There are NO essential carbohydrates

All of the above statements are true! Why, then, is it necessary to count grams of carbohydrates and not necessary to calculate grams of protein and grams of fat?

Probably the most-often-asked question is: Should I count TOTAL carbs or NET carbs? And: How do I calculate net carbs? Finally: WHY should I calculate net carbs?
